Networking does pay off

May 2nd, 2011

I just got off the phone with a member who attended our last Business after Hours. I had asked him if he had enjoyed the event as it was the first time that I had seen him at one. Told me it was great and that he had made contact with a company at the event that could turn out to be a new customer. I know we all are supposed to be using the new social media to expand our business opportunities and I promise to try to keep up with all the avenues available now,,, but sometimes the fact is, nothing beats a face to face (sorry facebook) meeting to intitate a contact that you may not have known about otherwise. I hope the new customer comes to be for him and I encourage all of our members to take advantage of the various opportunities available to them as a member of the St. Peters Chamber of Commerce. Until next time,  Ed

Well here goes….my first blog ever…

April 8th, 2011

Well here goes,….my first blog ever.. guess it is time to catch up with the latest in communication methods. What to blog about? I guess the thing I have learned over the years is the the Chamber of Commerce is one of the most misunderstood organizations in the community. While the Chamber is a nonprofit by IRS standards, it is not a charity, and not part of City government. It is an association of businesses and professionals banded together for the common good.

Our primary goal as a Chamber of Commerce is to provide programs and activities for our members. The Chamber provides our members numerous networking opportunities each month. We sponsor various events and activities that help our members connect with their customers. And yes we handle various information requests from callers on everything from relocation information, where is the Recplex or what is the phone number, complaints on a businesses (we only participate if it our member, for others the Better Business Bureau is the place).

We also promote our members through directories, referrals and of course this website.

The Chamber recently sponsored a Bridal Show for our members to meet with potential customers, the bride to be. Over 100 brides to be came to the show at the St. Peters City Hall. The show was a tremendous success with vendors making valuable customer contacts. We also recently had a Home and Garden Show, also at City Hall where residents received free trees, mulch, and mosquito eating fish as well as visiting with the over 30 vendors offering a variety of services.

The Chamber is currently organizing a B2B business expo for members only. It will be held on May  19 at a location still TBD. The Chamber’s signature event, Sip and Savor, a taste of St. Peters is scheduled June 16th at City Hall. This event features food fare from various restaurants and caterers and serves over 800 people with food , music and refreshments. Tickets will go on sale shortly and it will hopefully sell out this year. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold, so get yours early.

 Until next time.
